Newsletter: Are you inadvertently planning to fail?

sept newsletter

We had a fascinating week last month in which we facilitated strategic planning for three high performing teams under very different circumstances:

  1. We met virtually with a leading regional law firm, including all their partners spread out across the firm’s footprint.
  2. We hosted a full day retreat in our office for the C-suite of a nationally renowned nonprofit.
  3. Finally, we facilitated an offsite, in-person retreat for a department of a sophisticated family office.

What struck me was that, while these organizations differed in industry, geography, and perspective, their core needs were the same. They wanted to achieve alignment around their new, post-pandemic visions. And they valued our practical approach of quickly translating their visions into concrete goals and action items.

Most importantly, those leaders shared a belief in the power of planning. During each retreat, we heard some version of the adage: if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. It reinforced a pattern we see repeatedly with high performing clients – consistent excellence results from intentional efforts. Their success is not coincidental, but rather a product of continual planning and refinement of their plans.

Let’s draw on their wisdom as we enter this season of planning. Sustained success is not naturally occurring. To maintain your edge, you must plan for it. We would love to help, whether you need a nimble facilitator, a streamlined action plan, or a comprehensive strategic plan.

I’d love to hear your answer. Contact us here to chat.
