Newsletter: Make New Mistakes

Newsletter - leadership decisions

As we enter the last quarter of 2023, my team is starting to reflect on the lessons learned this year and incorporating those insights into our plans, so that 2024 is more productive and enjoyable. That process of debriefing from experiences – good and bad – is one we highly recommend.

Some of the lessons we gleaned (or relearned the hard way) this year include:

  • Simplicity scales
  • Business development is a teachable skill
  • Getting started is half the battle
  • Authenticity is everyone’s secret sauce
  • It’s important to know when “good” is good enough
  • Retention is the key to long-term profitability and sustainability

We invest considerable time evaluating past performance – but not because we expect flawless execution. Quite the opposite: we’ve given up perfectionism for growth, and growth requires mistake-making. Thus, we measure ourselves on the progress demonstrated by garnering enough wisdom from past errors that our next missteps are new ones.

Here’s to listening and learning in ways that celebrate progress over perfection. I’d love to hear about the wisdom you’ve gathered this year. Reply to this email, and let’s chat.

Warmly,

Precious Williams Owodunni | CEO & Founder of Mountaintop Consulting
